has mcps free breakfast and lunch program changed?

Seemed like las year most kids just took the whole meal and ate the parts they wanted. Don't expect that it will only be the healthy parts that you think they need.

He doesn’t need milk. He needs and should get water

So is water being passed out then? Or should we be brining a reusable bottle from home to fill at the fountain?

The entirety of our zoom school orientation was fixated on indoor/outdoor seating arrangements. I'm still pretty clueless on how my kid is supposed to get something to drink.

We were told at orientation to bring a water bottle if we could to cut down on use of the water fountains. I noticed water coolers in that hall that I assume is how they're filled.

I would send a full bottle in and not think that there will be lots of time for a class of kids to fill from hall water coolers.

Plenty of kids who are underweight or have health challenges rely on milk for extra fat, protein, and calories. You have no idea what the PP’s pediatrician has recommended for her child.

I'm still confused. Maybe someone can help me?

+ I agree that I saw the conventional lunchroom menus proposed for the first two weeks of school.
+ I also agree that I saw the "lunch from home + fruit + veggie + milk = school lunch" ad on the MCPS website.
+ I also agree that last year everything was grab-and-go, room-temperature food ( = not the kinds of things on the conventional lunchroom menus), breakfast and lunch.

So, regardless of how it might be delivered/purchased or where it might be eaten, do folks think that the cafeterias will be doing hot lunch?

While as a parent I have additional school-related things to think about, inquiring (elementary) kids want to know.

Yes, cafeterias are doing hot lunch. Grab and go was so they could eat in their classrooms last year, which they are not doing anymore.

They did hot meals during the summer program. I am assuming it will remain hot. I agree that all this is super confusing because it's not spelled out very well on the website. I am going to send my kid in with lunch. She didn't like the food during the summer.

Our elementary school is having rotating groups of kids eating in the cafeteria.

And our MS told us they are Grab and Go lunches.

But, this was a week ago, so things may have changed.

This is what it says in the reopening school guide:

All meals will be provided free of charge during the 2021-2022 school year. MCPS will continue to provide breakfast, lunch and dinner meals to all students in schools and at designated food distribution sites.

MCPS will provide free dinner to kids at home school? What are they for, for kids staying late at school, like after school activities or after school care or more for teachers that stay late at school? Interesting.....

My school has done a hot “supper” for three years. It is usually better than the school lunch, but still too much fat in my opinion. The kids eating it are almost always in after school clubs. The sports kids skip it.

His parents will make that decision. Thanks for your input though.

Are they going to have the kids go through the cafeteria line or is it still grab and go like last year

This is part of a Federal program covid relief bill.

ALL kids will be offered free breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

It's trash, mass produced processed food that we do not eat in our home. It's such food waste too.

New to MCPS this year. How does breakfast work in ES? They eat in the cafeteria after they get off the bus? Or the classroom?
