I have a 8 and 9 year old. They both swim summer (5 days a week/ 2 meets a week/ 6 weeks) My younger one also does dive - 5 day a week.

Your round they club swim 2-3 days a week.

They both play on two baseball teams (2 practices a week/1 game) in the fall and spring.

One plays football as well.

THAT seems like a lot. When is there time for school work?

12yo DS: travel baseball spring and fall (3 practices a week, one tournament a month, Sunday doubleheaders on non tournament weekends), winter basketball (at his middle school this year...used to just play rec)
12yo DD: fall softball (middle school team- warm climate, schedule is different here) and plans to do track and field at middle school this Spring
10yo DS: travel baseball fall (2 practices/wk, one tournament a month, no league), winter rec flag football (one practice and one game per week), spring little league (1-2 practices a week, 2 games/wk), possibly summer all star baseball (every day for 4-6wks)- we may nix it and travel instead

Both boys are very into baseball as a main sport right now, we require at least one other sport each and breaks from baseball (they’d play year round if they could)

DD is not super into sports and is constantly trying new things. She enjoys the socialization and being with friends more than the competition aspect.

I have a 6 year old daughter who does pre-team gymnastics & one dance class & takes swim lessons.

We did tell one of our kids to do two v 3 days of club swim this year and that we thought travel baseball was too much to add at this time (9 y/o). I do think 3 days of gymnastics is a lot for age 6 - but at the same time it seems she has to do that now or never - whereas our middle one was pretty good with swimming one day a week during the winter last year & two days is already an increase. So really it depends on the sport, the kid, & how they and the family can juggle all of the activities.

I didn’t join the track team until HS and then ran in college.

Track is completely different. If you're fast, you're fast. You don't need to learn skills, make yourself into a specific position player, or get on the "right team."

Yes, I am aware of that

My 14 yo swims year round…5 days/week with summer swim and 3-4 days/week September through May. She has no interest in any other sports.

What is it about swimmers that they don't want to do anything else??

16 -- swims 7 days a week year round. (They get a few weeks off in the summer). About 1 or 2 meets a month. Swims for HS team in the winter, COVID permitting.

12 -- basketball year round. 2x week practices plus tournaments on 2 weekends for club, slightly more in the winter. Wants to play for MS team in the winter as well. Hoops takes a month off in the summer. Also plays soccer, but I'm hoping this is the last year of it.

11 -- club lax (2 practices a week, occasional tournaments in fall more in spring). Rec baseball with one practice, one game per week. Club swimming -- 4 practices/week, but one is at 5 am so that doesn't get in the way of anything more than sleep!

All of them are summer swimmers.

So many sports are a fall/spring season or year round. If you leave the soccer team in the spring to play lax, you lose your spot.

7 year old, year round swim (2 or 3 times per week), pre-travel soccer (2 or 3 times per week).

He also wanted to do LAX once a week but I think he is already way over scheduled so I said no.

Have you paid attention to how little homework schools are giving out?

This is such a typical DCUM thread. My second grader is in travel soccer - three practices a week. My fifth grader is in travel hockey - three practices a week. They also have games most weekends. They also take music lessons once per week. This feels like ample.
