| I'd love see that OP. So not happening in this country unless you pay $60/hr. |
Non-Trumper, and I absolutely do. Anyone under 65 capable of working who subsists on welfare (under its many guises) should be required to provide value in exchange. The city is filthy, yet tens of thousands in DC do nothing productive all day on the taxpayer dime. Workfare *is* fair. |
Rarely if ever enforced. |
DC already does a version of this for leaf collection. |
| Any guess as to how large this workforce would be? |
| Model it after the janitorial contractors that the BIDs use to keep their blocks clean. It's not complicated. It's a "modest" proposal because it's asking for the bare minimum of city service. SMDH that so many people think sweeping streets is an impossible request. |
Because it's inefficient. Why don't we build dams with spoons? |
Hasn't charles allen just passed universal basic income? I agree, you work. |
Bleeding heart liberal here. . . I don’t understand why you are equating work with humiliation? Work is work and there should be pride in a job well done. I come from union families and most members of my extended family do various forms of manual labor. They are good at their jobs and I reject the idea that any are humiliated by their professions or should be ashamed in any way. We SHOULD be paying a living wage for the work we want done, bonus if it can be done by folks at the start of rehabilitation process. Something like this could be a path away from criminal justice system. |
