Are backpacks with wheels cool or uncool?

Decidedly uncool

Not to mention they don't fit in cubbys (ES), lockers (MS), and no HS kid would be caught dead with one.

Just buy a regular backpack with a padded built in laptop compartment at the back. They’ve been making these for years.

Uncool. My kid had to use one when he broke his arm. He complained every minute and went back to his regular backpack as soon as he could!

I think the hate is mostly because of people who think “we didn’t need those in MY day” because they are envious that students now have access to helpful devices those people didn’t have.

A properly fitted and worn backpack isn’t going to do any damage to your kid’s back. Dragging a wheeled bag behind them is likely worse.

Nice how you put conditions on your completely unfounded “retort.” Bags on the back compress the structure. Bags on the ground don’t. You want your kids loaded up like the Beverly Hillbillies’ truck, don’t buy them a wheeled bag.

Many schools don't allow them as they don't fit into lockers.

I bought one for my middle schooler this year because she really wanted one. I think it reminds her of being at an airport. I don't know whether or not my kid will have a locker this year and last year they had to carry everything they brought with them around all day long, for the days they were in school. I'm down with her decision and hope it works out.

So firmly uncool. They will get teased.

I have 2 middle schoolers who use them but they go to Catholic school and they have heavy textbooks to carry around along with their laptops. So they're pretty popular at our school and even recommended by the admin for that reason but no one is under any impressions that they're cool. Functional and convenient, yes. Cool, no.

OP I kind of get it, but they really are annoying and uncool. Actually the first time I ever “threw out” my back was in high school bending over to pick up a heavy backpack. Teach your kid not to carry around more than they need, how to pick up their backpack properly to avoid injury, and get a good one with sternum and hip straps to help bear the load. Osprey has cool-looking daypacks like this.

At my daughter's middle school, they had to leave their school issued laptops/tablets at school. This eliminated my concern about her toting a heavy backpack up several flights up steps every day/.
