So why are D1 schools filling up with International Players? If I am a taxpayer or athletic donor in said state with such a said program, don't think I'd be too happy with that practice. |

I'm guessing because the international players are better at soccer? Interestingly, it's not just soccer. Many of the mid-major and lower DI basketball schools have rosters heavy with international players. |

If your nephew was all-state, that suggests he was playing high school soccer and therefore not on a DA (now MLS Next) team. His level was likely below most of the DA players that end up in college and below the international players as well, so you can’t really generalize from his experience. |
Club is ECNL and did not actively market self to schools at all because, yeah, academics. |

let's use an example... university of maryland.
UMD has 30,000 enrolled undergraduates. Let me repeat, 30 THOUSAND. Let's say half are male. 15,000 now. Of those, how many play soccer competitively?, let's say 5%. That's 750 students. The "top" 30 we assume are on the varsity team. So out of around 700 students who play soccer, then you have another 25 who play on the school's "top" club team. These are ALL players who would be able to play D1-D3 at other schools. They aren't because of many reasons - played their whole life and wanted to chill in college, injury, joined a frat, focus on academics, burnt out, etc. but they still want to play for fun in college. If you're playing on the club team at a school that big and you are are on the team that goes and plays other schools, you've got to be pretty good just to get a uniform. Otherwise you can play intramurals or pickup. Just wait until you run into the African & Carribean guys who are way more talented than most Americans their age, and just playing intramurals or pickup for fun. |
Yes. That is it. Thank you for clarifying. OP |
Good to know. The pandemic threw a wrench into things for kiddo. Will see what happens this year with motivation. Maybe a club team will be the answer. |

Thank you for the info. I learned from most of these posts and appreciate it.

| Even D3 programs practice or train every day,it’s a big commitment. Clubs at D1s probably depend on how good and big the school is. |
