I live in Takoma Park. It's absolutely a different vibe than other areas locally. I am a primary voter and big into social justice, but I am not the granola-loving earth mother people stereotype us to be. I think people who don't live here don't see the full picture (we are not a monolith, and are also are black, brown, work in media, get Botox, etc....). I love it.

I live in DC but close to Takoma Park and spend a lot of time there. I like it and I know it’s not a monolith but it’s pretty darn hippie suppose liberal granola loving there. The people I know who work in media there work for NPR which falls right in brand with Takoma Park! No hate, just the truth!

No shade but this is kind of my point. You live in DC and probably spend time at the Farmer's Market, Republic, Takoma Bev Co, maybe the library. But do you go to Maple Ave? Flower Ave? Langley Park? If so, you'll see the granola hippie vibe doesn't really apply to all of Takoma Park, just affluent Main Street Takoma Park.

Fair point. I do go to Flower Ave and lived around there for a month in an Airbnb and still got the same vibe! Langley Park is not hippie dippie, true, and I think the tailor we go to to make traditional West African dresses is in Takoma Park (that area is definitely not hippie dippie). Maybe I need to explore Takoma Park more but there’s only so many wild flower/native plant gardens one can see!

After living here for many years I finally drove through Takoma park a week or so ago just exploring. It seems really run down. There was like on little intersection with some shops and stores but seemed creepy. Anyone else get that vibe? Seems like it needs some sprucing up. Couldn’t put my finger on what was weird about it.
