I hate beach volleyball

As an aside: the hugs after pretty much every winning point - are a strategy thing. Under the rules you can celebrate after a point and then the count clock starts after the quick celebration. They quietly whisper the service location or any strategies they will use during the hug.

Second this. There was a great interview with Alix and April in which they explained how they adapted to that rule. April Ross said they had to practice their hugs at first because they were so awkward and went so far as to have to decide who would be high arms/low arms. She said they practiced until it became a habit after every point.

Also, love how genuine and earnest that pair is. Go to the American Girl doll website and watch their video. A bunch of athletes were presented with lookalike dolls dressed for their sport and did a little interview. April and Alix were so tickled by their dolls that they picked them right up, started playing with them, and made them give tiny doll high fives. I love their unjaded enthusiasm!

OP here and as much as I hate beach volleyball, I have to disagree with you. One of the clips I saw early on before I got super sick of beach volleyball was them talking about how the new one previously played regular volleyball and had to completely relearn how to play the sport and it was really hard for her.

Many of the games were shown because they happened to be live during east coast prime time. Otherwise the time zones really hindered watching lots of sports live. During the day though USA and NBC sports carried a lot of the less popular- but really entertaining and fascinating- sports.

+1 I love beach volleyball and particularly liked this years USA women's A team because they were super tough and skilled. However, I avoid watching the women's beach volleyball because the bikini uniforms and the tone of the broadcasts are unapologetically sexist, and its not the image/message I want for my daughter.

Yes. They should wear more clothes to be less comfortable and not to offend your delicate sensibilities. Good Lord. How about celebrating women achieving something amazing? Maybe your daughter get that message instead of whatever hypersensitive you are imposing on her.

I think the issue is that it’s hard not to think that they show so much women’s beach volleyball because of the outfits. It would be interesting to see what NBC would do should they cover up more. I’d bet anything that they’d show half as much.

If you have large breasts it typically hinders performance. And they have very little fat on their bodies.

To the PP's point that this is one of the events that is live during East Coast prime time which is why there was so much coverage - wondering what other, if any, live options there were.

Umm yeah ask Karch Kiraly how this works.

Or any of the men’s indoor players who moved to the beach.

It’s basically like 5 on 5 basketball vs two on two. In indoor vb or full court basketball you may want a super tall center or middle or a super fast point guard or libero. But those players aren’t the ones successful in two on two, where you need skills, height, and athleticism. Kiraly could play both. Kobe was outstanding at both. Shaq was probably not the guy you wanted for two on two.

It was really hard for her because she wasn't that good at regular volleyball. The part of the interview that you missed was when she said she switched to beach volleyball because she couldn't make the regular Olympic volleyball team "after several attempts."

Her words.

It gers the most coverage every year. Just a coincidence this time.
