Where to shop for furniture?

Ew no, their quality is terrible. OP, stay away from Pottery Barn/West Elm, their prices reflect their marketing costs, not the quality of their furniture.

Room and Board, Mitchell Gold/Bob Williams, or Crate and Barrel. Definitely trek out to Greenfront if you can. And if you're willing to travel to North Carolina, then Furnitureland South.

We have a transitional house and have a lot from Mitchell Golf and Greenfront. Crate & Barrel is a good bet too.

OP here, thanks all.

What is the relatively quality of Room & Board and Mitchell Gold? For Greenfront, do they have a large selection in NOVA? (Heading to NC may be a bit more than we can handle for this!)

I'd love it if someone could come to our new house, see the style and the rooms for which we need furniture, and help us with selections. I imagine, though, that an independent designer/decorator may be out of reach for us.

Decorator will do that and will probably suggest custom everything.

Not necessarily - I pay someone $90 and hour to pick out stuff for me and she recommends things in my price range.

If an independent designer is out of reach, then so too is Mitchell Gold. $50k is a ton of money. Go read the Money forum and College forum to learn about DCUM regrets.

I drove out to Greenfront and was really disappointed. It seemed very old lady to me.

Same. It was a good reminder why most peoples’ houses are really ugly. I would only recommend Greenfront if you are bringing an interior designer with you.

Their rug selection was nice, but I would not recommend trekking down there for furniture.

What about Crate and Barrel outlet? I know there is only one in Alexendriia, VA. I guess you have to keep calling to ask otherwise you can go out there for nothing.
