Seeding is more than times, you have to know what the other teams times are and where they will put their talent. They gauges where you put your own (or not) to take points. They is where a good coach can make a difference on a team. I often see good teams lose points/meets because of their seeding. They have a really fast kid in one stroke and that kid is fast in two others. They consisitently choose to put the kid in the really fast stroke but if they had put that kid in just the two fast strokes that same kid would have picked more points for the team (might not be the kid's favorite stroke). Seeding is more big picture. Teams lose all the time by only thinking of a kids fast time. Oftentimes, you throw your legal but slower kids in breast and fly and you can pick up more points - even if they are your fast free kid. Becaues everyone has a fast free kid. Our reps call/text parents if kids that don't usually swim when they are seeding to confirm availibility. |
Ok, I oversimplified, but this falls 100% on coaches on our team. We have an online way to declare availability, but yes, follow up on this would be another potential rep duty. I think our rep sets it up and the coaches communicate with families to follow up as needed when they put together the weekly roster. |
