| Ballpark, I think we spend $750-$1000 per year on clothes/shoes for my middle schoolers (one DS, one DD). We do live in a year round warmer climate now, which reduces costs IMHO. (Outerwear, sweaters etc are generally more expensive). We buy clothes when they need them and don’t do a “back to school” shop really. |
ETA: that amount is for each kid (not total) |

You are loaded, who cares how much your teens clothing cost.

We have a similar HHI. DS finally got interested in clothes last year, so we are trying to be supportive without spending a fortune.
We usually take DS to Nordstrom Rack or similar (outlet mall) and let him pick 5-6 shirts and 4-5 pants. We have to come or else DS will buy all sweatpants or T-shirt’s and we want him to get some variety. Most things there don’t cost more than $40-60, so that works for our budget. We do push back if he picks out anything really expensive. We buy some more expensive items for birthdays and holidays. So the expensive shoes or sweatshirt is something he knows he will get late fall or at Christmas. |
