Wanted to add that we also used a water pik and that helped a lot in keeping it clean. We also used the interdental brushes.

I had one as a kid. Wasn’t a huge problem in terms of day to day, but the idiot doctor overexpanded my jaw and I ended up looking like a Neanderthal by the time they were done. Among my friends I wasn’t the only one with this problem. My mom took me to a different doctor who ended up removing 4 healthy teeth to get my profile looking more human. Now that I’m older and approaching the age of crowns and root canals, I really wish I still had all my teeth. So the lesson is to watch the doctor like a hawk.
