Measuring 2+ weeks ahead on ultrasound

Anonymous
At my 12 week US, they said the baby was measuring 6 days early. At my 20 week US, they said the baby was SIXTEEN days early and was at 97th percentile! They had me tested for GD and all was fine. I went today and we are back down to 81st percentile. I wouldn't worry too much; my last baby was 8 lbs. 2 oz at 38 weeks and before I got induced they said the baby was going to be well over 9 lbs... this is not an exact science. Just stay in good contact with your OB and enjoy the ride!

This is OP. Thank you for all the responses. I actually had some bleeding yesterday afternoon and called my OB. I had ANOTHER u/s yesterday to make sure all was okay and it was a completely different tech. She said the baby is right on target and is in the 50th percentile for gestational age - smack in the middle. The tech also said baby was NOT 6 lbs 7 oz - 6 lbs 10 oz, and in fact was only 5 lbs 12 oz. So, I'm not sure why Monday's tech was so concerned and asking about GD. She did seem young, and yesterday's tech was much older and has been doing u/s for 15 years. OB thought the bleeding was from my cervix beginning to dilate a bit. Was told to take it easier and baby is right on target. So, I will be taking all future estimates with a grain of salt. I guess you don't really know how big they are until they make their debuts!

thanks for the update, OP. glad everything is good! plus i'm sure it's nice to have some proof that these estimates are very subjective depending on who is making them. i hope you have a great birth!

Taking it with a grain of salt is a good idea. My DD had been measuring 2 weeks big throughout my pregnancy. At my final US I was told the baby was measuring 8lbs+ and she ended up being just shy of 10lbs. It can go either way. I'm currently carrying a baby that is measuring nearly 3 weeks big so I'm expecting yet another big baby. We'll see. Whatever they say, the important thing is that you'll end up with a baby in your arms at the end

My first child measured consistently 2+ weeks ahead, was born 5 days early weighing 9+. The tech was freaking us out big time, but my dr. said everything was fine. They shouldn't let techs insinuate things may not be okay. I wouldn't worry about it. Oh and my child's head measured 39 weeks when she was only 32. And yes she had a big head too.

I consistently measured 2+ weeks ahead with my first - DS was born 3 weeks early weighing in at 8lbs, 12 oz.
