Oh op no wonder you’re exhausted, having your husband gone for a week when baby is 5 weeks sounds so hard. Hang in there. I was thinking today that sometimes the best word to describe newborn times in my house right now is “relentless.” I love this little baby but doing the same cycle over and over is truly exhausting. It doesn’t help much right now, but all I can say as a second time mom is it truly does get a lot more FUN than it is right now. Personally I find the newborn period to be pretty low. But while parenting stays hard, it get so much more joyful and fun, and you feel like mostly a whole person again. And it’s not that far off, it will be up and down til 12 weeks but in my experience it starts to get more fun after that and really takes off at 6 months.

From a fellow mom doing the newborn thing right now, hang in there!!

I make a ton of milk so my let down is frequent. I also worry that she just wants to comfort nurse and she isn’t hungry and then the milk comes and that leads to increased gas and discomfort.

Oh and pp here I wouldn’t worry too much about comfort nursing vs getting milk. They’re pretty good at regulating all that and frankly there isn’t much you can do. Does she actually fart at the 30-40 min mark? Or is she just wriggling? It may just be she can’t make it to the next sleep cycle which is so so normal. It’s exhausting in its own way but sometimes some baby wearing or holding for naps can get you some longer naps so you get a little break

OP i i had a similar issue and what worked is nursing in a specific position where you place the baby’s body in line with your own. So the baby is placed straight down and you lean back and the baby is basically lying on top of you. I am linking the video - it is for overactive letdown but helps very much with gassy babies. Worked with mine and they can get super drowsy and not fully asleep if you do it enough times. Good luck!
