New state order requires masks in schools until July 25th.

Hopefully not as they have forced a large portion of the school population that is already vaccinated to remain masked. Anyone over 12 should be given the option just like they are. everywhere else.

Vaccines are important but don't get us all the way there, especially with Delta.

The article clearly states the vaccine offers huge benefits against Delta. And, that after vaccination you need to take a risk vs benefits approach.

Northern VA has higher vaccination rates than the UK.

Time to remove the mask mandate for kids this fall.

Then, the more risk adverse can continue to mask just like the article states

We shall see. My guess is HS it will be optional, Elementary it will be mandatory since none of the students will be vaxxed at least during the first semester. MS might vary. At this point almost no 6th grader will be vaxxed by September. If that's 1/3 of the school's population, I can see MS mask mandates for the first semester as well.

Don't be ridiculous. Do you know how hard that would be for teachers to manage? They would spend all their time looking up who can be unmasked and who can't be. I don't want my kids wondering about it either.

Teachers need to be focused on teaching, not mask management.

All students and adults should be masked unless no one who is unvaccinated is allowed into the building for middle school and high school. Wear a mask. It isn't that hard and it is the right thing to do for the community. Try to think about someone other than yourself for once.

I’m one of the PP and a teacher. I really hope your wrong for my own kids and for my students. I hope they make masks optional for all. I don’t want to teach another year in a mask and most kids are not wearing them correctly anyway. Compliance was way down by June. They had them on but not in a way that was doing any good. I’m not at all worked about my own unvaccinated children being in a school without a mask right now.

It is an airborne virus. Filters on the ventilation system will have more effect. Particularly compared to the cloth masks that CDC is foolishly recommending.

Chances good of this order getting extended at least for the unvaccinated on school grounds for fall:

This is a super easy problem, give kids a wristband or lanyard or something that shows they have uploaded proof of vaccine. Impossibly complicated problem easily solved. Yay!

That’s ridiculous. We allow people in grocery stores, movie theaters, and restaurants without masks. We have no knowledge who is vaccinated in these places. By your logic everyone should remain masked everywhere forever. That’s not the way things are going.

People in middle and high schools building will have been eligible for a vaccine for months come the start of school. No masks needed.

No masks, no need for mask management!

Sure no problems with mask management, but obvious problems with Covid spreading.

No, they are vaccinated in middle and high schools. Just like the grocery store. Not everyone, but enough to prevent spreading. Just like at the grocery store.

You can check this. A couple of informal studies were done. Per Emily Oster's data, teacher masking DID effect in-school spread. Student masking did not. Per data collected in Florida, student masking showed no effect on in-school spread.

Mask the unvaccinated teachers.
