| My brother and I were 4 years apart in school and he was still compared to me very frequently. Similar situation in my husband's family. It's probably unavoidable if the older kid stands out. I do think that the family's own ecological niches probably have more of an impact on kids' self-perceptions than outsiders, so it is worth thinking carefully about how you handle/frame the issue at home. |
