Are kids (under 12) still wearing masks for backyard parties?

Yes, except when eating or doing water play.

So, I’m in PA...a liberal, educated area FWIW, no one has ever masked for outdoor parties.

And I just got back from our pool club Memorial Day party...hundreds of people, no masks, and gasp! a self-serve buffet.

My son (11) still wears them, but I would not be upset if other kids his age were not wearing them at a small outdoor get together, as long as the kids had room to distance when eating. It is not like they are 5-7 year olds, who likely would be all over each other.

We are no longer masking outdoors and I have two kids 2-12. Most people in my circle are doing the same.

However if you indicated you wanted my kid to wear a mask I would not think twice about it and my kids would wear it no problem.

Just best to be clear on invitation.

I have a son and a daughter and they have been to a few parties in the past year. DD went to one last winter outdoors and the family asked everyone to wear masks. That’s it. That family isn’t wearing them outdoors now either.

So no masks and especially not for 12 year olds outside. Vaccination status doesn’t matter outdoors.

In our neighborhood, seems like most boys are not wearing them but girls largely are. We had a get together at our house and we asked all the kids to wear masks when inside our home. They kept them on outside largely but we didn’t require it.

+1. I'm not putting my kid in this situation. No party is worth this.

Risking your kids getting Covid is?

Does anyone still think you risk getting Covid by going maskless outside? This is June 2021, not 2020.

Let me start with the fact that we aren’t from this area and considered conservative to the point of neurotic in our state. (We wore masks indoors, while shopping, prevaccination when they weren’t required, gasp!)

We started letting our daughter go unmasked outdoors in a group (we always were unmasked on family hikes and solo) a month ago. But, the CDC still does recommmend the unvaccinated stay masked outside in larger groups and when transmission is high. I think this leaves enough room for reasonable people to disagree about a kids party.

We got through this with most of our friendships intact by clearly communicating and holding no grudges. So that’s my advise. Pick a lane with outdoor masks at your party. Communicate it on the invite. And hold no judgment on folks that may decline to come.

My advice. Sigh, my advice.
