| U13 and I’m pretty sure it’s rules based. No subbing so starters stay in. |
I would agree with this for older age groups, but not developmental groups U8-U13 or so. Every kid should get at least 50% time, at least, at this age and they should be rotating, or else it's unfair to say kids haven't developed because if they haven't developed it's the fault of the coach and the club. If it's a school team or if there were kid players who get paid to play coaches can do anything they want but when you are paying and the club advertises that they are developing players they should actually be developing them. |
Are those two staying? |
That's just a few leagues like MLSNext isn't it? Most leagues allow you to sub any time and for players to go in and out the whole game. |
Better players develop outside the club program. |
| You can keep saying this stuff all you want but many families are not seeking to have their child be one of the "better" players but just improve and have fun and their $3000 should mean something. |
yet they happily sign on to clubs where their kid may not play. There are clubs out there that will play every kid on a roster, you just have to find one |
Yes! I am satisfied with my U12 son's playing time (almost the entire game) but he plays defense 100 percent of the time. He likes defense, but has no idea how to play any other position (he freaked out about having to play midfield in a pickup-ish game). It's frustrating. |
This! If you are paying a club to develop your child, they should be playing at least half of every game. If not you need to be talking to the Age Group Director or Technical Director. It is not acceptable to let kids ride the bench unless it's a tournament final. |
Some clubs make promises they don't keep. |
Did he play only play defense from U9-U11? If so, that is the problem. |
| His problem is he likes it. |
Sounds like he is developing great... |
| I cant imagine a club accepting players just so they can be benched all year, Maybe ECNL or MLS next to a certain extent. Problem is most parents are dillusional about their kids placement on a team. Some parents want to be on a top team so bad that it harms the child's development instead of improving, maybe your kids need to drop down a level or two so they can get maximum development and playing time. Tournaments is the only time play to win is acceptable but never on a regular scheduled game. |
Agree, 8-13 50% playing time should be expected, if it is not happening find another team. All about minutes with the younger players |
