If it's the kids' laundry, what's the big deal? Put clothes in, put soap in, hit "on."

Better yet, for the kid. Anyone who can play Minecraft can do laundry.

Spray grass stains. Make sure that socks aren't balled up. Zip zippers, check pockets.

Kids' clothes are smaller, and you can easily have a week's worth in one load. To actually get them clean, not have gum or tissue covering everything, and make sure that zippers don't rip up everything else? It can take 30 minutes to prep the load.

I have kids straighten out their clothes when they put them in the hamper. If they don't, they get to do it all at once before the washer is loaded. Front load: load at 3yo, unload at 5yo (when they can make sure that there aren't any socks caught in the seal). Top load: load when they can see over the edge, unload at 10 with a chair or whenever they can reach to the bottom, whichever comes first.

Question. How is this a nanny- sounds like a driver.

You’re ridiculous. I’m a mom and I don’t do any of that.

I babysat a lot in college and I would have happily done kids’ laundry if there was downtime like during naptime or if I was there in the evening after the kids went to bed. I tended to babysit kids under 2, so I wouldn’t have felt comfortable leaving an awake kid to do laundry, but for older and more self-sufficient kids, I’m sure it would have been fine. I would have also washed sheets and towels. Washing the parents” clothing would have been over the line for me. But the other stuff wouldn’t have been a big ask at all. Of course, I was a responsible and self-sufficient young adult who actually knew how to do laundry. But I suppose given the number of kids at my school who couldn’t (a women’s college even), you can’t assume they actually know how to do laundry.

I was happier not doing kids laundry. That’s not a babysitters job. And certainly in all the years I babysat, no one ever asked.

Nor would I ask our babysitter now.

It’s not a nanny. She’s a summer babysitter.
