I need to join Facebook, can someone help me with settings so they don't track me?

OP here. This is super-helpful! Thank you. I have not friended anyone and I log out every time. I stopped the notifications for "possible friends." However; I blew it and already gave them my real email address before writing my OP.

I did not give them my phone. I did get an email from them saying if I did not give them my cell phone (for two-factor authentication) I would be banned. I couldn't get past this by ignoring it, so I ended up giving my cell.

I like getting an email notification when the site I must visit now gets a new comment. The only thing is that they email me every few hours until I check it, whether or not there is more activity or not since the last email. If someone has a suggestion as to how to make them email me only once, that would be great. Otherwise, I may turn off all notifications and just check the website once a day.
