Daycare price increase

This doesn't sound normal, our prices at a center have never increased that much, but there's not much you can do. It stinks, I'm sorry. It's worth getting on waitlists elsewhere if something else will work better for you.

It doesn't sound like they just "sprung" it on OP. She is still expecting and doesn't even start for another two months. This is ample notice. I am a board member for a local program and costs have definitely increased. Gloves were $30 per case pre-pandemic and we haven't been able to find them for less than $80 per case for the past year. 5 cases per week = an extra $1000 per month in expenses with a budget that's already tight and that's just for gloves. We are also having to increase wages to compete with unemployment which offered $20+ per hour to stay home with the federal CARES funds. Programs are increasing rates just to stay above water.

Why are daycares still requiring employees to wear gloves for an airborne virus?? If this is strictly a pandemic protocol that seems like an unnecessary measure that could be eliminated tight now.

NP. Licensing still requires it for COVID. Before COVID we used gloves only at diaper time.

Our kid's daycare uses gloves only during meal times and bathroom/diaper time... This prob varies.

Gloves should be used when handling food, applying first aid, coming in contact with bodily fluid (ie - wiping noses), diaper changing, helping with potty training, cleaning up accidents involving chermicals, applying ointments including sunscreen and diaper cream, etc. This is universal for child care programs.

Costs are increasing everywhere. I'm sure their rent is up, and it's certainly not easy to hire these days. It's steep, but not unsurprising given price inflation these days.

Either you like the place and you can afford it, or you don't and you can't. Programs already only charge what the market will bear (and not what the true cost of quality is), so you're already getting a "discount" on the back of the operator who is likely making close to poverty wages.
