it sounds like a fuel pump and those are pretty cheap. Frankly, if it's still on it's first one, they go a lot more than you can expect out of it

A couple thousand in repairs/maintenance, or 30 grand for a new car. Hmmm... Tough decision.

For the OP, next time you start the car, turn the key to ON for a few seconds (don't crank it), then turn it off and try to start it like you normally would. My guess is the check valve in the fuel system that keeps it pressurized with the car off is leaking. When that happens, the system takes a few seconds to regain pressure to the injectors before it'll fire. I'm not sure where the check valve is located in the Odyssey, but it's usually integral to the fuel pump.

OP here, as promised I wanted to update what my mechanic said. Now, before you jump on him, let me tell you he is a fine mechanic specialize in Japanese cars with almost perfect ratings in Checkbooks. Well, he said that there is nothing wrong with the car. Very small chance it might be fuel pump but unless he is 100% sure he didn't want to replace it. He kept the car for three days to try to "recreate" the problem but every time it started without hesitation. He asked me whether I saw "green key" light when I was having the problem (which I couldn't remember) and asked me to make sure the green light comes on when it happens again. This morning car is acting like all is well... Weird. Thanks guys.

OP thanks for the update. That's a good mechanic that tells you he found nothing wrong and to tell you just wait and observe. Something might be intermittent, so just wait for it to break completely.

Funny story on that. I had an intermittent mechanical vibration in a car that sounded like something was on the way out. I decided to just wait for it to get worse, but it never did. The mechanical vibration occurred occasionally for 6 years before I sold the car. Every time I had a mechanic in the car for a test drive, it did not occur.

It’s probably the fuel pump but could also be a fuel filter getting clogged.
