OP, people are being harsh because that's dcum, but I think your feelings are relatable. You already gave all the appropriate caveats about knowing it's silly and that you're not gonna say anything -- which I agree with -- but I totally get what you're saying. It's familial -- and yes they WERE family, but they are not now, so it feels too intimate.
