Brookland FC is offering Travel Teams for U9 and U10 Girls on the girls side. On the boys side they are offering Travel Teams for U9, U10, U12, U14, and U17 Boys.
The guys who started it are Gonzaga Grads in their Mid-20's. I have one kid in their Rec Juniors program and I have one playing on the U12 Boys team. They love it, and they really like Coach Tom! |
Is this entire thread a commercial for the club? Reads like it |
DC Soccer parent perspective: Celebrate Brookland FC's highly experienced coaching staff, community engagement, and homegrown talent! All with a mission to serve soccer players within all Wards of DC. They will have age-level teams and it's 100% focused on the kids/players and DC communities. Can't say this enough, have raised 5 athletes in DC, refreshing to have a new, inspired neighborhood soccer club. |
Not a commercial, just a breath of fresh air and love for the beautiful game. |
I love the community aspect, but 23 to 25 year old coaches aren't highly experienced in coaching even if they have played soccer for two decades |
If these folks coached at any established club they would be put with lower teams or as assistants because they are lite on experienced and have a D license at best. The director only has a D, is also an assistant coach at an unnamed college and 7 years of coaching experience at unnamed clubs with unnamed teams. I think he may be the only coach that might know what he's doing but there's nobody more senior to provide quality control. I think what they're really doing is starting a rec program and then training players up to be "academy" level, aka MSI classic level or PPA intermediate level players. |
Many people are happy with that goal. |
It's big club prices though. Yowza. More than $2000 all in for the year must get some great field access. |
Woohoo!! Guys born and raised in DC giving back to the community! Love to see it |
Looks like they have 7 travel teams that will all play NCSL. Pretty neat for only being around for a year |
Are they playing in ncsl now? |
They played Sam select for at least the u10s boys in the fall. The u13 team forfeited their season or at least pulled out of Sam select after it started because it caused my kid who was in that age bracket to get their schedule adjusted after the season started. |
My son was on the u13 team. They ended up only having 11 kids in the fall for that age group so they elected to just have scrimmages with local clubs and within the club. It definitely beat driving to Germantown! |
I hope they refunded you the part of that 900 dollars per kid that was going to go to SAM'S [obscene] 3,000 league fee |
Yes all their competitive teams will be in NCSL in the spring. Really looking forward to it. Daughter is on the 2013 team |
