Williamsburg MS (APS)

Our oldest is in sixth and obviously this has been an unusual year, but we’ve been really happy with all of his teachers so far. I will agree that the principal isn’t a great communicator, but that’s our only complaint. Our son has ADHD, and we have had no issues with getting the accommodations he needs.

People at Williamsburg don't like to hear it but there are other middle schools in APS and elsewhere that have good reputations and aren't just viewed as grim places to endure for 2-3 years.

Swanson is just as good academically and more diverse and pleasant in every way.

Not a grim place. Great school. Ridiculous parents. Some spoiled kids. But great teachers and lots of great kids. I have a couple of kids who attended/are attending. Couldn’t be more pleased with their experience. But rest assured that you will get lots and lots of complaints from the set that expects to be catered to if you ask about WMS on here. Thank god that’s not representative of the kids’ experience. I had a girl. There are lots of rich spoiled girls with attitudes for sure. If your child tends to join the crowd I can see that’s be something you’d have to contend with. Mine was very involved in stuff at school but not at all involved in the girl drama.it can be avoided but harder for some kids I think

The students with special needs are not treated well either.

All middle schools feature cliques and mean girls.

It’s really not that different. The only physical fights (and substitute teacher dragged out by the cops) that I saw happened at Swanson, in fact. If that’s your definition of pleasant in every way, I guess you’re right.

I have a 6th grader there. It’s been a “ meh” experience. I don’t find any of the teachers inspiring or great. They do not seem to go above and beyond. Principal is terrible.

I have a sixth grader and an eighth grader and the PP is one of the complainers I was referring to. Her student hasn’t been inspired during a 6th grade year in a pandemic. Therefore the School must suck.

I have a 7th grader there. I have been very impressed with all the teachers with their dedication and how much they seem to really like all the kids.

Majority of the kids at WMS have at least 1 vaccinated teacher that is still refusing to teach in person. They still will refuse in-spite new CDC guidelines that vaccinated people don’t need masks indoors and have an extremely low risk if transmission and infection. If that is not indicative of the commitment of the teachers at WMS , l don’t know what is.

This bitterness towards teachers with medical accommodations is hard to watch.

You have no idea what these teachers' circumstances are. Some people who are immune compromised are not protected by vaccines. This was all figured out by HR and APS was pretty stingy in granting virtual accommodations to teachers. So STFU.

Please final another place for your kids then. We would all benefit from your exodus. Get over your anger and move on. Great school by the way. But as said up-thread, more than its share of entitled nutty parents.

I’ve had 3 go through WMS. If your child needs special Ed, run. Otherwise, it’s fine.

Just curious if this school year has presented a better place for children with well documented IEPs?
