Scar on toddler face? Or will it fade?

Anonymous
It may have cut a little deeper than it appeared as I think happened to my granddaughter as to why she got a little scar when all her other abrasions healed w/o scarring. Her pediatrician will see her in person in a few days but from the picture my daughter messaged her she said, "Well, looks like a nice little scar she has there." She recommended Vit E oil twice a day and sunscreen (which we've always done since she was born). She said ,"this one is going to take some time". I found that encouraging. I pray hers will flatten and fade as time goes on. On another forum a mom wrote that it took 2 years for her daughter's scar to completely vanish. I am happy for your daughter to have had hers fade so well that you only see it when she's been outside or flushed! You are correct about helping your daughter not to focus on her worth being tied to her attractiveness. Thank you so much for replying and may things continue to go well for you and your family!

Came across this older thread as my 2.5 year old had a rock incident this past labor day and needed 5 stitches on his cheek.

Will strong sunscreen cut it or will we need something like that thick white zinc for sun protection?

Cocoa butter, vit E, or Mederma?

Wife and I feel terrible….hopefully we can take good care of the scar and help erase an unpleasant memory (literally)!

Mederma made my parents surgical scar turn purple and so much worse. I'd never use that. For me, it itched like hell and I had to wash it right off. Sunscreen is best idea. It should lighten over time.

And if I put anything on it, I'd use Doterra Correct X! You can buy on Amazon. I accidentally ripped skin off my face, was a bloody area, and it healed perfectly in 3 days. It's really amazing. I have even used it on popped zits to avoid scarring.

I’m the OP. If anyone’s still interested, DD skin has completely healed and has been for at least 6 months. Can’t even see where it was.

I would think red might fade but not sure. My daughter picked a scab on her nose as a toddler and has had a white mark in that location ever since. I assume white doesn't go away but there's a chance with red.

Both of my kids had facial scars that eventually faded. My daughter’s was just like yours, a fall on her face on the concrete at the pool that left abrasions and scarring on and around her nose. I can’t remember how long it took to fade. There is nothing there now at age 8.

My son had stitches in a straight line just above his eyebrow. Now, at age 11, the scar can be seen as a whiter patch of skin when he gets a deep tan. Otherwise, you would never see it.

All scans will reveal the raw, redder skin when they fall off. Just give the body time to heal.

Thanks for the update OP.

I am using vitamin E at night and coco butter in the day on a scar right now. Does anyone have evidence that it’s works and is it better than coco butter?

Congratulations OP, your child now has character.

Mederma. Do not wait for the scar to heal. Start using mederma on the wound.
