IVF - 20+ eggs retrieved, none fertilized. What would cause this?

Thanks everyone. After this and 5 IUIs I don’t feel ready to go again. Maybe next year.

I’m so sorry OP. I am sending you thoughts for comfort and peace. I just went through unsuccessful round too. Also pcos. Wishing you the best. I know how hard this is ❤️

So sorry, OP. That news is devastating. If it helps, I don't think 300 units was enough to fry your eggs, even with PCOS. Certainly not high enough that your RE "should have" known it would be too high. I would definitely do a DNA fragmentation test before your next round, and ICSI with assisted hatching. Take some time, but then try again. I think you'll have better success next time. Hugs.

Definitely ask for ICSI. My friend with PCOS also had theory of a hard outer shell and did icsi for this reason. Lots of eggs retrieved is common with PCOS, so I don’t think you were necessarily overstimulated. I had icsi done as well with 19 eggs retrieved (I don’t have PCOS- endometriosis and dh has low morphology). I’m surprised they didn’t push icsi, our clinic basically always recommends it to circumvent sperm issues, along with PGT testing. I’m sorry OP, that’s a really rough cycle and hopefully if you try again, you get different results.

Birth control - yes

150 iu Gonal F and 150 Menopur per day

It's been a few years since I did IVF, but these numbers jumped out at me. I think it's pretty unusual to do equal doses of Gonal F and Menopur. I don't remember actual doses, but I think my Menopur was always much less (like 1/2 the dose of Gonal F). Your RE may have had a reason for this dosing, but you should ask why. A little Googling suggests this is a pretty uncommon protocol.

Wow well that saved you 2+ years of trying on your own. My vote is don't take a break. Things only get worse as you age.

Hard disagree here. I did two retrievals and my protocol both times was 150 gonal and 150 menopur, and I was successful.

I had not thought about it this way. Thanks for pointing out the (sort of) silver lining. -OP

Yep, same here (though follistim rather than Gonal).
