She chose UMBC for a better "vibe" (yes, I know) and a more diverse student body and a better arts program (another interest). I am probably outing my kid with all this info! Oh well. haha. Good luck to all.

UMBC is also a top choice for my DC who is a junior . Mainly because of UMBC’s president and diversity!

Deposit paid at 9:30 pm last night. Truth be told, my child does not know himself well enough to feel confident making such a significant decision, partly due to pandemic isolation. However, as a control freak, I didn't steer the decision in any particular direction, although I helped him weigh pros and cons of each school. We told him that the experience depends in large part on what he puts into it, so now that he has committed, he should not look back at the choice. However, as young and not very confident senior, I assured him that even if the school he picked does not work out, he will be in a better position next year to understand what matters to him and can always switch.

I appreciate those who have shared their journey and who helped to put this decision in perspective. Best of luck to the class of 2021 as they move forward.

This was a factor for my kid, too. It's really nothing like the other schools she looked at in terms of socioeconomic and ethnic diversity.
