Moving from MD to VA; Vehicle Property Tax, any other "hidden costs"?

Several different companies come down the street, different days, and empty the trash cans. It's such a nuisance. And expensive. And really, shouldn't this be a county operation? What is govt for if it's not for this type of service?

Where is this? In Arlington the county pucks up our trash, including bulk items that are left out. It is great trash service!!!!

You don't have to be wealthy to save. That MOCO 3.2% is greater than the car tax. At 80k single it's about 2k+ more take home pay from MOCO to FX after car tax. My kids and millenial friends rank it highest to lowest: MOCO, DC, VA.

So we see more expensive cars in MOCO than FX. Keep the old stuff running. It's like getting a 3.2% raise less about 500 for a 5 year old avg priced vehicle.

We're in Fairfax City, and the city provides a terrific trash service (with large item removal). I don't think having to pay for private trash service is universal or even typical for VA.

You live in a 3 million dollar house? Because the Mclean property tax rate is only like 0.1% higher than the Bethesda rate

As someone who is middle class in MoCo I will soon have four cars. I have kids with cars. No car tax. My kids work at higher pay in summer so to higher MoCo minimum
Wage. We never pay tolls to drive. My W school is great. My house I have homestead exemption and property tax rates are lower. My home is now worth 1.4 million.

As a middle class person I can keep my 1.4 million dollar home and multiple cars. Plus I like the trees and beauty.

Plus my same house in Nova would be 1.6 million with higher taxes.

Now if they make salt higher o be happy

Montgomery County currently has the lowest property tax rate in the state at 0.77 percent, but has the highest median home sale price at $420,000.

It may say .98 of assessed value but with homesteads exemption it is less as it is not .98 of market value. My house is worth 1.4 million and I pay $12,300 in MoCo as a primary owner with homestead. So clearly not .98 of 1.4 million.

You forgot one thing - there is no tax if car I s less than $10K. I am sure your kids are not driving expensive cars. Your house would also appreciate less. You would deal with worse public services and higher crime in MD. Your pick.
