When will peonies bloom?

Mine have set buds and will bloom in the next couple of weeks. I have peony rings permanently in place for support. I went around this morning removing all the side buds for extra safety.

Tell me more about this. What are side buds, and what should I be doing with them?

Disbudding is a matter of preference, not compulsory. It makes for a larger main flower and the stem is less weighted down but some people prefer to have more flowers overall. I just snip off the side buds that grow below the main bud when they are the size of a pea.

My buds are tiny. But more buds this year than last.
