What's the norm in VA when divorcing - equal custody, or some other arrangement?

I'm trying to wrap my head around what life might look like if we divorce.

Ideally it should be 50/50. Kids need both parents as active and equal parents.

Well that would certainly prevent half of all divorces...

This, at those ages it’s often up to the kids to choose the arrangement.

You don't put kids in the middle of a divorce and make them pick parents.

50/50 is the norm. Some people have different arrangements based on their situation... maybe one parent travels a lot for work, has shift work, or an unpredictable work schedule. However, both parents should do everything within their power (meaning stay in the local school district, etc) to ensure kids have as close to 50/50 as possible.
