Expectant and Postpartum Moms
Huh? Did a baby not pass through your birth canal? Did then nurses not check you for dilation progress every 2 hours? Did your water not break all over the place? Why bother with the undies? We are talking about delivering a baby, right? |

for most of labor i wore a tank top, underwear (with a pad), and pajama pants. about an hour before the birth i got in the water and took everything off except the tank top, which i left on until she was born.
i don't like hospital gowns either. to me they imply illness (which pregnancy isn't) and they make me feel huge when i'm pregnant, and i don't want to have to worry about flashing anybody. i felt much better in my own clothes too. |

I wore a t-shirt type nightgown. It got some blood on it, but it came out in the wash.
I have allergies to strong soaps and did not want a rash on top of the other post partum discomforts. |
Not everyone gives birth in a place where people are constantly sticking their fingers inside of them. Not everyones water breaks before delivery. I wore a cute stretchy jersey maternity dress, underwear (with a pad) and some socks. Took everything off when I started to push. The only "yuck" that got on my dress was sweat, which came out in the wash. Still have the dress today and wear it as a nightgown. |
Agreed...I did not have any cervical checks, so wearing underwear and pants was not a problem. My water had broken but I just used a maxi pad to absorb it. I liked being in labor wearing my normal clothes (including underwear). Somehow it just made the whole thing seem more normal. And when it got to the point when the baby was going to be coming out soon, I took my clothes off, and wha-la!

i delivered at a birth center where they don't (thankfully) provide one of those ridiculous gowns or do hourly cervical checks. (in fact, as an aside, i was fully dilated by the time i assented to a cervical check, so i too kept my leggings on up until go time). i bought a few oversized t-shirts from the men's department at marshalls for about $3 per shirt. wore that the whole time.
