Do people like you who post comments like this on DCUM not know any wealthy black people, or wealthy people of other backgrounds besides "white"? Interesting.

Exactly. I had a wealthy Asian friend who moved his family out of the Cathedral vicinity after they built a homeless shelter ACROSS THE STREET from his townhouse. He was paying $8k per month and they build a homeless shelter. Luckily he rented so he moved and bought a mansion in McLean. It appears DC is intent on destroying itself

He must have lived across the street from "The Shelter at Cathedral Commons." A Giant loading dock for 18-wheelers in the backyard with a homeless shelter directly across the street. $8000 monthly rent. What's not to like?

Yes, better for the homeless people to live outside on the sidewalks instead.

The Small Area Plan was approved, but there are still steps at the Zoning Commission to fully understand how high anything might be. The DC Office of PLanning is proposing, with bonus density, Inclusionary Zoning and mechanical penthouse up to 85 feet, but it is likely nothing that tall would ever be built.

It isn't a homeless shelter, it is temporary residences, and frankly it has had zero negative impact on the neighborhood.

The small area plan was the pro quo part of the bike lane quid. Bowser wants to add affordable housing while the ANC individuals wanted bike lanes. The rest of us get a smaller community center/library and get congestion, side street traffic and even more overcrowded schools.

My car window was smashed by a juvenile resident of the temporary housing residence. My car has a dashcam and it took about ten minutes to figure out who the perpetrator was. If you are not familiar with the area, the residence is next door to Second District MPD. I took my video there and they went next door and the kid fessed up. At that point there was really nothing to do. I did not want the kid's mom and brother get kicked out of housing and certainly did not want the kid arrested, but why is there not anything shy of arrest and a criminal record. Why can't the kid go empty trash cans for DCPR for a month?

I don't see the harm in having a kid like that arrested. I wouldn't want him incarcerated, but an arrest and warning are probably a good thing. And yes, it would be good to get these juveniles to earn back a clean record by cleaning graffiti, etc.

You can’t use race-based arguments on policy opponents unless you’ve set the stage for that act of the play.

So the shelter couldn't arrange for this kid to do supervised cleanup of the neighborhood, or to have a homework detention for a month? His mom couldn't get in on this? What kind of services and supervision are there at this shelter? You're saying that zero consequence or learning opportunity to come from this for this child was proffered ?
