It's start-stop mode. My VW Golf stops when I slow to barely a stop.

Takes some getting used to, but you can turn it off.

This was my first thought too. But I’m type A with anxiety and have trouble imagining the way a lot of people go about their life. Often I think “it must be nice...” (sincerely, not sarcastically.)
