So, will APSVA be 5 days a week in the fall or not?

Most secondary students will have been vaccinated or in the process by the fall - Pfizer has already put in the papers with the FDA for 12-15. If it gets formally approved by the FDA before then, the schools could then mandate it for 16+. That will make it dicey for some sixth graders, but the rest of MS and HS should be good. The little ones won’t be vaccinated, so they may not relax standards for them.

I 100% agree with this. I think that highschool and middle school have a very good chance of being 5 days in person. Elementary, no idea.

Is this despite all the data out of Israel showing that as adults got vaccinated, kid cases starting dropping (once they passed a tipping point that we are not to yet)?

I expect numbers to be low in the fall given the current push & high demand for vaccinations. My DH and I still can't find appointments, but surely will by late summer. As will be the case for the vast majority of adults. Numbers are going to continue to drop.

Restrictions may loosen as numbers drop as well. Or maybe APS can come up with better options for outdoor lunch or increased ventilation in cafeterias to reduce distancing.

CVS drops appointments daily at midnight, Safeway drops appointments Tuesdays at 7am. If you qualify now, you should be able to find appointments (or a week from now if you don't qualify yet). I found a ton at Safeway this morning throughout NOVA, including some in Arlington.

If it is a county wide virtual program, there will be a teacher dedicated to that, so I don't know why you think there is pre-recorded information. If you don't like that, choose in person. We aren't going to create 28 different programs to make every single parent happy.

My concerns have nothing to do with the county virtual program. I'm concerned that in person students will still be taught virtually because of teacher preference. If elementary students aren't vaccinated teachers math still refuse to return to return to the classroom, as is occurring currently at my elementary school.
math = may. Stupid autocorrect.

Which school is this? I can't imagine if school is full time in the fall that teachers will be able to teach virtually. Those teachers would be shifted to an all virtual program (which is hopefully countywide rather than school based).

Except that they are related. Teachers that aren't returning in person would be staffing the virtual option. There won't be virtual teachers at regular schools. MOST teachers want to be back in person and as close to normal as possible. No concurrent, no Teams, etc. Middle and high school use Canvas and technology a lot pre COVID so that's probably not changing.

There will not be virtual teachers teaching in person students next year.

We don’t qualify yet here so have been looking at nearby states. Also might drive far down VA if we can find one.

Have been reading that MD mass vax sites are taking everyone and they take out of state, but haven't tried myself. Hope you get one as soon as you're able. CVS schedules about 4-5 days out. Safeway drops for the week. Keep that in mind as you're looking to schedule. Good luck!

We don't really want to drive down that far.

Hopefully, something opens up nearby when we're eligible -- less than a week now: Sunday, 4/18.

Thanks. Will start looking at CVS in a few days when we are almost eligible.

No. You aren't listening. These teachers are classified as "in person" by APS, but aren't comfortable being in the classroom with students so the principal is letting them teach students via iPad. This is by teachers choice. The principal is letting teachers decide whether to be in the classroom or teach via Teams/prerecorded video.

Per the governor's order, starting 7/1, teachers can only teach remotely per disability act. All instruction needs to be in-person for those selecting in-person. So the remote teachers will have documented disability and will not be used for instructional time.
