Can you leave hospital with baby without a car seat?

Do public buses or ambulances have car seats?

Haha. And then will the “authorities” come and inspect your car seat every few months for you to make sure it is appropriately sized? Will they ensure kids have access to healthy food and a clean living environment?

I don’t doubt you that this is indeed a requirement, but it’s actually a perfect example of government overreach, IMO. I don’t have a car —> I don’t need a car seat. And this country clearly doesn’t give a damn about kids. This is probably some kickback to car seat manufacturers...

We loaned a coworker a car seat so they could walk.

We have 2, 1 for each car. I just was planning not to bring it since we are going to walk home. We walk everywhere around here, but we do own cars for when we need to leave our neighborhood.

Have you had the baby yet? I couldn’t walk 1/2 a block for a long time after my first. forget 10 minutes. Get a car seat. You plan to never take your baby in a vehicle or on a plane?

You’re going to walk 10 minutes, carrying a baby, your bag, all of the hospital loot, flowers and balloons people have sent you, etc., the day after you gave birth? This is not a good plan.

+1. OP, just use the car.

Agree, drive home. You can start walking once you are out of the hospital...if you’re up for it.

Plus all the additional crap and hospital freebies and balloons etc etc. Bring one of your cars and one of your car seats and try not being the test case.

OP the lovely family of 3 walk home from the hospital, will not go how you’re envisioning it.

Bring car seat. Attach to stroller outside tbr hospital and walk. But i dont recommend it. Lots of stuff and you dont know how your recovery will go.

Eh, it depends on how the delivery goes. I could easily walk for 20-30 minutes within a day after all three of mine. But I was lucky and had super easy deliveries...

NP-- we never had a stroller and we had the baby in an assortment of wraps and slings and so on... but there can be a learning curve for those anyway. This plan isn't well thought-out, OP. What if it's pouring rain? Sure, you could use an umbrella but like... you'll have a bunch of things to carry and so on... and you'll have just given birth. I could have walked 10 minutes after my "uncomplicated" birth but it would have taken 30 minutes and not that fun.

I had a second degree tear and was bleeding like a stuck pig when they sent me home from the hospital. And I would assume it would be worse pain with a Csection

This actually happened to my friend. The refused to discharge the baby because parents didn’t have a car seat. So when we birthed at the same hospital (also 10 minute walk away) we bought a car seat and they said we could have walked and didn’t need it. Go figure.

yep

Yes. And call either your insurance company or Medicaid and say they have a non compliant baby release and ask for extra days for the baby until a social worker picks up the baby and brings it to your home in a car seat.
