Barking, lunging, leaping dog in yard next to narrow side street

Anonymous
Barking at people walking by is not the same as “aggressive.” I have a very friendly doodle that loves everyone, and loves to play with other dogs, but will bark his head off at every person walking by on our side of the street that has a dog and will also bark at anyone (with or without a dog) who steps foot on our property. He thinks alerting us to danger is his job, and he’s not wrong. We’ve had construction at our house for months, and he barks at every new worker, but once he’s been “introduced”, he doesn’t even bother getting off the couch (unless, of course, he thinks he might get a pet out of it).

I hope to turn it into a free crowdsourced app people can use to navigate their walks. My own motivation is a recent attack on my dogs during a walk where a dog was able to breach its fence and leave the property to come at us and latch on to my dog. If I had known that this type of dog was there (as other neighbors seemed to know) I would not have had this block on my route. With DC being such a transient city and so many of us moving during the pandemic and not having the opportunity to speak to our neighbors about such information, I think this will be an invaluable tool. Feel free to email me at dcdogbitemap@gmail.com. The information will be confidential. I plan to have different colors signifying the intensity of the issue associated with a particular dog. For privacy, we are planning to put the dots as a marker based off the block but will not be identifying the particular house. If you have the address, please provide it confidentially - if not, cross streets or a pin on Google map will be sufficient.

This is a good idea. Good luck!
