Help! Looking for a Good used car for less than 2k.

Anonymous
I bought a 2007 Civic with well over 100k miles from a friend. I think asking around is the way to go. For my friend, she could have sold for more to a stranger but it was worth having a quick easy, no haggle transaction to sell to me. It's definitely an "around town car". If I were going on a road trip, I would get a rental.

Sorry forgot the key piece of info! I paid $2000 in 2020.

I sold such car to my friend for $1000. She is happily driving it 2 years later with no problems. OP just needs to know the owner. OP, do you know anybody who drives an older car? Maybe they want to get rid of it and buy a new one. Maxda3 is a good used car.

The last three posts are people buying cars for cheap from their friends. Their friends are doing them a favor by selling them a car for less than it's worth. If OP can find a friend that wants to dispose of a car like this, that's great but I'd guess that's not the case since she's asking here.

At $2000 price point a car is being sold for parts.

I'm one of the cheap car buying pps. My point was, OP won't know if anyone has a cheap car to sell until she puts in out there to people she knows. I didn't ask my friend to buy her car, but after I said I was looking for a used car, she got in touch because she was working at home and wanted to sell on of her cars.

Looking for a nice car for DD going to college in the fall.

You could probably get a 2012 or 2013 Honda Fit for that price, though I don't know quite where you'd find it. Our 2010 Fit is, according to KBB, worth less than $2,000, but with less than 70,000 miles on it, it's running fine and we're happy to drive it for a while longer.

On carvana, a 2010 fit with under 100k mileage is at least $10,000.

Also, that pp isn't telling the truth, that vehicle is worth 3-4k not 2k. That's what her car is WORTH, not what the dealer will resell it for at a profit. Most of them look to be priced around 6k.

Oh, that's good to know -- I get some thing emailed to me by one of the credit monitoring bureaus that included a link to an estimate that our car was worth about $1,800. We aren't planning to sell it, so I didn't bother figuring out whether it was accurate, but I guess never mind, OP, you cannot buy a 2010 Fit for under $2,000. Sorry.

Are you on Nextdoor.com? You could ask there if anyone in your neighborhood is willing to part w/their car for $2k. For that price, honesty about condition of the car will be important and presumably someone living nearby you will in theory be a more honest seller...

Op here, thanks for the suggestions. DH said we could increase budget to $6k tops. I don’t know anyone with a car to sell for cheap. If anyone in DCUM land has one, let me know.

I was hoping for a 8-10 year old Ford Escape, Honda Civic or maybe Corolla with less than 100k miles. I just didn’t know 10/years old used cars were still so expensive.
