How is a motorcycle safer than a bike?

Because they are. They can actually keep up with traffic, instead of being in a situation where you are constantly being passed by drivers who might or might not give you enough room. Motorcycles are actual vehicles. They take a lane, and unlike a bike, they move at the same speed as traffic.

That is definitely safer. You cannot possibly argue otherwise.

Other than your own conjecture, did you research this at all? Because you are dead wrong. Almost comically so because you are so convinced of your own logic.

I hear e-bikes are in high demand right now, so it may be hard to get one soon. Is it possible to import something from the Netherlands? Our neighbors (who are Dutch) have some super cool looking bikes like what you are describing.

We know two people on scooters that cars did not see.

The bike lane is generally safer.

OP here, we live in the city and plan to use bike lanes as much as possible. The biggest danger are cars that don’t follow the law and share the road.

This.

Just to reframe that: It's too dangerous for biking with your kids because of people driving cars so the solution is to be part of the problem. Huh.

I’m not OP but honestly yes. I’m not putting my kids in danger to prove a point. I’d love to start biking with my kids when there’s some real safety infrastructure put in - until then, nope.

There are a lot of those! I would be very wary. The bike loses out big time if it tangles with any car, regardless of who is at fault.

Or, more precisely, car drivers who don't follow the law.

So do motorcycles or scooters, though, for the PP who suggested getting one of those instead because they're "safer."

The cargo bike that I have been dreaming of getting for years is the Urban Arrow (I don't have one so cannot personally endorse it - but it looks amazing). Its a Dutch company and the bike is designed from the ground up to be a family city transport vehicle. There are a limited number of bike shops in the US that sell them but several of the stores will ship the bike (some for free; some for a couple hundred bucks) -- some even have no-interest financing). The bike runs about $6K which is very reasonable for a full feature, e-assist cargo. Just google it to see all it offers.
