Which Boy Name?

Love Owen. I’m Irish, and Connor is overdone by the Irish-adjacent. Unless it’s a family name, no. If you do use it, spell it Conor.

Caleb has always sounded too Biblical to me. I dint hate it, though. But Owen is beautiful. I know many strong, good Owens.

Yeah! What’s with the attitude about Owens? The one I know is 16, great at sports, decent to his older AND younger sisters, and seems like a good kid.

I like the name Caleb, but it lost its appeal after I learned that it is the Hebrew word for “dog”. I couldn’t shake the idea that I was naming my kid “dog”. And every time I meet a new kid named Caleb I wonder if his parents knew what the name means.

1. Caleb
2. Owen

I never wanted to use a very popular name (because I have one) for that reason, I was a no on Connor even though my husband loved it.

I have a cousin name Caleb. I’m black. Everytime I see him, I say “whaddup dawg!” And he gives me point and says, “You tell me, what the dillll pickle?”

OP here. I don’t care about popularity. Connor will be spelled like that. I don’t think Owen is a nerdy name.

Owen grows on you

Conner doesn’t give me any opinion

I guess Caleb. These names all sound dated but maybe it’s that I know a lot of kids named these. And none are classic

No it doesn’t. I used to think that until I researched it further.

Hebrew meaning offered for Caleb is "faithful, zealous, ruthless, bold, brave". This is on the basis of its being actually a compound word, a phenomenon quite common in ancient Hebrew. Col (כל‎, Kaf + Lamed) = "all" or "whole"; Lev (לב‎, Lamed + Bet) means "heart". Therefore, Caleb (or Calev as pronounced in Hebrew) would actually mean "whole hearted" or “singleminded”. This might be due to the personal qualities of the Biblical Caleb, a companion of Moses and Joshua.

I love the name Owen. It’s my husband’s best friend’s name and if we didn’t have a family name, we would have named our son Owen.

Connor and Owen are both nice albeit very popular.
