**The only reason you're considering private is that they are in-person 5 days/wk? |
I'm in a similar situation. Kid got into K at a private. Wouldn't have strongly considered it previously but we are super concerned about in-person.
Now that we are in, I'm also thinking about overall school quality - especially with all the problems that APS has and has continued to kick down the road. Once APS goes back in-person we are still going to have to worry about school quality and overcrowdedness and redistricting and segregation and all of that. We are in S. Arlington and thinking it may be better to pull trigger now than try it out and then eventually have to move/apply for privates later anyway. Especially with the super long wait lists on any of the highly desired lottery schools in APS that I keep seeing posts on. On the other hand - its so much money. Hard to think it wouldn't be better to just put that in the college fund instead. |
I would place importance on what switching schools back and forth, public to private and then back to public, will do to your kid, emotionally. We think kids are resilient and they generally are, but some kids don't make friends very easily. Even for the ones who do make friends easily, switching schools is a major life event. If you're going to do it once and then stay in a private school situation, then fine. But if it's only for one year and then you're doing another switch because of the cost, just don't do it. Hang in there with the public school. It's probably not going to be back to 100% normal this fall, but don't let your anxiety about it cloud your judgment. Things will be back to 100% in-person, 5-days per week by mid- to late- fall at the latest or parents will outright revolt. Spend the money on a tutor if you are worried about your son's academics. He can make up a lot of ground this summer, and some of the tutoring places are going to be in-person by then. |
In person, as in teaching? I’m sure your kids are getting the same education though. Let’s run that experiment for the next 12 years. You can even pick the “best” online school. No residency required. Or are you one of those that have have had their kids in private, in person this whole time, like the ACPS Superintendent...or any Democrat politician. |
If they didn’t revolt this past year, despite some of these people sending their own children to in person private schools, why would they start now? |
“In-person” as in “childcare”. Another factor for OP to consider: how many a-holes in private v. public? |
They'll be back in person in the fall. I don't think Northam will include an emergency clause so SB 1303 will become effective on July 1. |
I would do private next year if you want 5 days a week in person. |
Well for the past year many public “schools” weren’t even that so... |
Only the deposit is due in March. You have until June to make your final decision. |
Sounds like districts, states and the feds, should get on the same timeline as parents then. Oh wait, many have had their children in school this whole time. |
They did in my county. It made national news. If Fairfax and Loudoun parents make enough noise, it'll happen for the other local counties. There are other parts of VA where the schools are open 4 days per week (M, T, Th, F). If they can do it now, we can do it in August/Sept. |
Join the military, serve the required time, and get college paid for. |
No, but they were teaching. |
They were playing YouTube videos and directing kids to apps that look like they were built in 2000. Precious little teaching or learning occurred, at least at the elementary level. |
