We are so thrilled! I haven’t told my child yet because I’m still fearful they’ll pull another last minute switcheroo, but feeling the most optimistic that I have in a long time.

Prioritizing in person education over health. Yay! Buildings over bodies.

Prioritizing science over fear mongering. Yay!

I just don’t understand how they do this and comply with CDC recommendations re distancing and case levels. I guess they are just ignoring that. Sure hope they don’t do this at the secondary level.

FCC case levels are substantially lower than the rest of the region. THey have vaccinated all of their teachers. CDC says 6 foot distancing where practicable.
I'm a FCCPS parent and I am all for it.

While it was not addressed specifically in today’s communication the superintendent has noted on multiple previous occasions that the FCCPS schools have the ability to bring all students back while retaining the 6 feet of separation “gold standard” with some creative use of space.

Impressed and jelly. But kudos to the leadership.

That’s what’s weird. FCCPS said it could bring kids back 5 days a week and keep 6’ distance in the fall. Then they inexplicably pulled back.

This announcement isn’t a rejection of the 6’ social distancing advice.

Yes, they absolutely had the capacity to safely do this months ago, but I guess better late than never.

As the parent of a kid at TJ and a kid at MEH, I welcome this plan wholeheartedly. I’m thrilled. My MEH kid is doing fine but my TJ kid is a disaster, poor kid. I understand the need for increased caution and care around mitigation strategies for the older kids. The little ones just need this so badly. I won’t celebrate until April 6 but I’m putting the champagne on ice.

That means kids sitting on laptops and virtually logging on in the high school. The new building is huge but the classrooms are not. They must be planning on using all of the common areas.

Allegedly this is already the extent of what hybrid entails for most high school kids in the dmv, but I’m confident FCCPS could expand to full time learning and still do better.

And maybe when this is all over Noonan can start working on his communication skills.
