OP again.
I re-read the last post and noticed you said the placement test should take place within the first 2 weeks or so, so I'm assuming the after the 3rd week, the school should have all the relevant data to discuss DS's placement. Great. You said that your DC was in 3rd grade, and you asked the school about how he/she did in math 3 vs. math 4. Do schools usually give kids testing for multiple grades to see where they are at? Thanks! |
I have to say, I don't remember how the 3/4 assessment happened (at my request or as part of the regular structure of the school). What I do remember is that DC had demonstrated quite a bit more than 50% of gr 3 on the incoming assessment.
Per your other post, it is unlikely that teachers are assigned kids prior to August before school -- too much stuff can happen (teachers quitting, new students moving in/out). Classes are carefully balanced in terms of gender, ability, interests, friendships, etc. In our school, principal would be happy to meet with incoming parents, give form for parent input, etc. in the spring/summer before entry, but probably couldn't say anything about assignment to a particular teacher. |
