The data especially on reading is imperative. The stats on reading in FCPS are alarming.

It’s not valid data. The year has been too compromised and stressful on kids who have learned in many different situations. There’s no benchmark from last year either.

Exactly, If it looks good then FCPS will take the credit. If it doesn't look good then they'll blame it on the pandemic.

Virginia already looks worse than the county on average on reading assessments for kindergarten. FCPS should be compared to districts that got their act together and followed through on some in-person education before third quarter.

They have Lucy Caulkins to thank for that

Right - so let’s not lose another year with no benchmark.

None if you opt them out

They still won't get instruction because the teacher will be sitting around while the rest of the class takes the test.

That wasn’t the question though. She asked about her kid taking the test. She can opt out. I am a teacher and opted my kids out. We can all agree these tests are bad and shouldn’t be happening but the federal DOE has said they are so whining in this message board or blaming FCPS is a waste of your time. You have agency to opt out and should if you feel the tests are wrong. Beyond that we can’t do anything about it

+1 we are opting out so unnecessary on all fronts. So it looks like va really does think the sols are worth risking lives. We still have an unvaccinated parent who is high risk in our house!

VA doesn’t have a choice. The federal DOE has mandated them.

Any parent can opt their kid out. It will not negatively impact their child or their school to opt out. Please exercise this option as it’s completely ridiculous to give an SOL. It’s a logistical nightmare for schools.

Pass it on.

This is not an FCPS mandate...it is coming from Federal DOE. They are required to give them. Student opt outs won’t count against schools this year (usually it would count as a failure), so your teacher likely doesn’t care if your kid takes it or not (just throwing this out there for the DCUM crazies who want to “stick it” to their child’s teacher).

Yes to show what a miserable job they’ve done.
