Times New Roman is the IBM of typefaces: no one’s ever been rejected for using Times New Roman in their resume. I’ve known some people who didn’t like the font, but no one who would reject a candidate over it.

| Your spacing and content is more important than your font. Serif is more conservative, sans is more progressive. I personally don't like Times New Roman because it feels stuffy and old, but I wouldn't ding anyone for either if the resume is easy to read and has all the relevant info I want. |

NP. Garamond is more commonly used for book typeface. It is elegant and has high readability. |
