The very very bottom cost to reupholster is $800 to $900. This is just to recover, not reupholster. Then, if your piece needs any work at all - restuffing, springs retied, foundation crack, any repair at all - that's extra. If there are any complications in the style - tufting, curvature - that's extra.

Then there's fabric. There are tons of options and you'll need about 20 yards, more if your choice has a large repeat. The cost of fabric begins at probably $50/yard and goes to 500 and higher.

And of course there is delivery. Do the math.

To the person who asked why - it's to preserve a sofa that could not be replaced for 3K. If a 20K sofa can be brought to life for 3K, that's a good deal.

Slipcovers would be more like $1000-1500

NP. If it’s basically the same cost, wondering if it’s ever worthwhile to reupholster when you can just purchase new?

Totally worth it - older sofas have better bones.

So, I was just shopping for new sofa fabric and the "performance" fabrics -- good for kids and hi use -- were about $35/yd. Calico has %15 off discount in March. You can also purchase same fabric from somewhere else and have only labor done by the re-upholsterer. Look up Fabric Mill online.
