What school dropped off the list because of your visit?

DC is in at Columbia.

Sounds like a humble brag, not a drop based on a site visit.

Nope. DC wanted an urban feel.

And they thought Charlottesville was their answer? I don’t really care, but it seems like your kid’s choice was independent of thoughts about UVA. Just saying.

Dartmouth: terrible presentation - even though they all start blending together, Dartmouth's stood out as particularly bad. Terrible system to set up tour groups and then mediocre tour guide who concentrated on the bad parts of the school. I walked away with a feeling that this was not Ivy League material at all. It was a shame because I think it's probably a great place - have friends with kids there who are happy. DC didn't bother applying.

The dorm room for viewing during the tour did it.

William and Mary for my daughter, that sample dorm room they show you on the tour.... ugh not homey at all. Was a shame because if they hadn't shown the dorm room it would have climbed to do the top of the list. Loved the campus and the vibe though my daughter noticed not alot of cute boys lol.

Also Georgetown, not that we were going to get in, but we went a few times just to explore and the last time we were there almost stepped on a dead rat in the middle of the walkway. That was enough to scare my son away once he read that rats and roaches are a big problem there. I'm sure that happens everywhere but it was a turnoff lol

The dorm room they showed on the Carnegie Mellon virtual tour was terrible and turned my DD off. I guess they want kids to have realistic expectations.

wow and it was a turn off on a virtual tour? You'd think they could find a better picture to send LOL this was live in person and what my daughter hated about it was it was dark and smelled muggy, no air circulation. Now this dorm does not have AC so i guess they are just trying to be realistic but they could have at least prettied it up a bit.

Duke, William & Mary and Georgetown

VCU. DC wanted more of a campus community feel and the tour guide mentioned several times that "everyone pretty much just does their own thing" on the weekends.

Princeton, you would have needed the jaws of life to pry the stick out of the guide’s ass
