Bethesda Chevy Chase HS Mascot - a just wondering question

Has there been any push to change the mascot?

I thought they were moving to a tree?

Many of the sports teams in MCPS have terrible mascots. Vikings, Knights, Blue Devils, Gladiators.

Were these guys on Saturday night live too?

Maybe they want to keep it a baron so they can argue they really are a W school

Did anyone on this thread suggest that?

There have been attempts to change the mascot though I'm not sure how serious they have been:

https://www.change.org/p/dr-shelton-l-mooney-change-the-b-cc-mascot
https://www.change.org/p/montgomery-county-change-the-bethesda-chevy-chase-mascot-to-the-princesses

But back to the original question, my guess would be that at some point their was a ND alum in the picture? My old high school used to have different school colors until a number of USC alumni were on the board.

BCC alum here. It’s a goofy mascot and lady baron’s is lame, but there is way deeper sexism at BCC than changing the mascot. Let’s focus on that first.

Yes, a gender swap is the right idea but doesn't go far enough. Make the Baron a woman and a different race too! Show that times have changed and how BCC embraces our diversity.

Why can't BCC just have an animal mascot?

While attending B-CC, (1980)I thought that our mascot's name was just plain.... lame. Not inspiring at all. I thought Chevy Chase CENTURIONS might inspire some respect particularly from opposing teams. One of my classmates suggested Bethesda BAD ASSES once. That name might not go over well with adults who serve on committees responsible for choosing mascot names. But a BAD ASS is definitely not lame. Certainly better than Baron. Sheesh!
