Winter play dates & covid

I’m trying to avoid kid play spaces, going to peoples houses and the usual indoor winter activities that we would normally do.

I think the play dates are really more for me than DD 4, I can not play 24/7/365 school/Princess/doctor/dolls etc. Need another kid to play.

The "hack" is weather appropriate clothes. They don't have to be expensive.

We aren’t doing those. But we are playing outside. Layers.

We still play outside. I dress my kids in layers, put on hats and gloves and they go. I let them play until they are cold. My kid played outside for about 5 hours last week one day.

Outside usually but with one friend in their garage with the big garage door open (still masked and distanced).

Apparently the new variant transmits in minutes indoors, even with masks. Stay outdoors.

Stop. Indoors has always been riskier but now you are just making things up. It’s already bad! You don’t have to embellish.

Well, OP... I think you need to pick your poison. It's either 24/7/365 school/Princess/doctor/dolls etc. or bearing the cold for an outdoor playdate.

You stop. It does spread faster, there are many hypotheses why but no one knows. That’s why double masking is recommended now, and limiting all indoor time.

In Ontario, York region has been tracking the B.1.1.7 variant, and according to Dr. Karim Kurji, medical officer of health for the region, the variant might take much less time to infect people than the original strain before it.
“When we interviewed the cases, we discovered that some of them have actually not spent more than a minute, or two minutes, doing some essential shopping in places,” Kurji told CTV News.
“It gives us the impression that this [is] being transmitted very fast indeed.”

Not too cold. We meet for hikes outdoors.

Even on the coldest days in DC, we have been out. Multiple layers, hats, mittens, wool socks- kids don't care, and the parents have a hot drink to sip on while we watch them. Fresh air for everyone!

I'm in New England, we are doing outdoor playdates. Good gear (doesn't have to be expensive, thrift is just as warm!), sometimes a firepit for the grownups, hot drinks. Or keep moving to stay warm!

It was legit about 40 degrees yesterday! Kids were outside for over 2 hours

Obviously gear up and get outside!

We do them outside. With coats and a hat.

The slushy wet melting snow is a problem, but that will clear up soon.
