I bought books from ebay for all less than $20. in fact, the school will let your kid to borrow books for free.

We come from a low income family and as a parent I don’t my hard working child to feel the burden or feel that their parent has to go an extra mile to buy these text books. Thanks in advance to every one who can help . I being a worried parent just want to start making a small fund for my kid to buy his textbooks .

Please please be kind .. not looking for any financial help but just want to plan to support my child .

Is using the school provided copy not an option? My child did SMCS at Blair. We never bought any books.

Yes .Definitely my child will be using the textbook from the library and ones provided by the school. DC child being a sensitive kid is worried just like his parents that if should right now join the SMACS because of financial liability or just go to our local HS school.

That made me to ask for links to buy text books for him and just to know how much each text book cost .

Thank you everyone. Appreciate all the help I get from this group .

You should ask at the Info Session, or email the magnet coordinator, but I’ve never heard of public school kids having to purchase their own textbooks.

RMIB.

RMIB provided textbooks (the actual IB ones), plus all the other AP classes have textbooks too.

Nobody buys books or other materials necessary for the program. The school will help you figure things out if needed. Talk to the counseling department.

we've never had to buy a book for IB, however, because of the pandemic, there is a shortage of actual books available to read, so the teachers have sent over PDFs of the books. I'm not a fan of that, but we still have never had to buy a book for IB classes.

Nobody has to buy books in any program in mcps. Both programs good. The RMIB has the highest number of kids getting Banneker Key Scholarships (UMD full ride) of any school in the county. But both schools and programs excellent and you cannot go wrong with either.

RMIB has higher stats probably due to location- people who have options may choose did to commute choose RM over Blair and PHS. Poolesville is in the middle of nowhere and getting back and forth is a big commitment.

Higher stats reflect county-wide competition vs. regional.

Higher stats in what?

Overall- RM has the highest number of NMSFs in the entire county. My friends daughter went there and then Yale.

I do not think this is true. Some years Blair is definitely higher and then there are whole school magnets like Bronx HS of Science and TJ. RM can not compete with them.
