My friends who earn $20/hr and have roommates and babysit on the side.

If you want a nanny to work for you exclusively, you need to pay a wage so she can afford to do that. It’s literally all in your hands. What you pay, will determine what you get.

Absolutely of course. That isn't my dilemma - maybe some previous posters mentioned it ,but I would totally pay the right wage. My issue is how to find someone when its unlikely i can get word of mouth referrals since I don't know many people in the area.

I’m a veteran nanny will ample excellent references and take covid-19 precautions very seriously. Let me know if you’d like to chat.

Yes would love to chat! I am looking for someone beginning after December, however, but perhaps we can figure something out! I am available Today at 6:30p if that might be an option, or Tomorrow after 4:30p?

Oh no - I mean I’m looking for a family that wouldn’t mind me bringing my baby with me to work at their home. Dec start is too late though. Best wishes in your search!

If you don't want them to have a weekend/after hours gig with another family, you really need to make sure you paying more than enough for them to live on and make it worth it. I see so many ads of parents only wanting 25 hours/week of care @$15-20/hr and expecting to the the nanny's only job, and for the nanny to live alone and not take public transportation. No nanny is going to dig into their savings to accommodate that.

So maybe figure out how much a nanny would need to earn to afford housing, car payment, food, entertainment, savings, etc. and make sure you are paying above and beyond that amount.

She either has a car or doesn't. You're making it more complicated. Different people have different budgets and financial obligations, no way to guess fully what nanny's situation is. Also, even if you pay$30 per hour for 20 hrs a week, there is absolutely no guarantee that she won't take another gig. Likely she will.

You're right. I'm sure there are many independently wealthy people who want nothing more than to isolate themselves, save for watching stranger's children.

Actually, I agree with PP, and somewhat with you, despite your sarcasm.

I’m a live-in nanny. I have over 25k in the bank, investments, etc and some would say I appear wealthy. I’ve also been quarantined with a family since summer. I was looking for a family when covid hit; since it was important to me that they would be as focused on limiting exposure as I am, I took another 6 months before accepting a position. Oh, and I don’t have a car, because the majority of live-in families want to be able to decide what sits in their driveway for the neighbors to see.

Op, what city are you in? I know of a veteran nanny looking for a new family, starting in August/September. She prefers the Bethesda/ Kensington area, but may commute further for a good match.

I’m an experienced nanny and mother of adult children. I have a degree in early childhood education, my own transportation and am ordering in all food/prescriptions and not seeing family or friends. My partner is immune compromised so social distancing is extremely important to me. My current contract will be up around the time you’re looking OP. I’m happy to speak with you, give you more details if interested.
